What it is
Petty places animated 2D characters in a transparent floating window on the macOS desktop. They react to your activity, to dragging and clicking, and to idle time.
How it works
- A native app built with SwiftUI and AppKit: a borderless character window, a menu bar controller for visibility and position, and a settings window.
- An activity monitor (IOKit) tracks input and idle time and drives a character state machine.
- Characters are animated with the Rive runtime, pulled in through Swift Package Manager.
- A built-in character store with packs sourced from open game projects and free asset stores, such as Tux from SuperTux and Surge from Open Surge.
